The Effect of Antiglaucoma Procedures (Trabeculectomy vs. Ex-PRESS Glaucoma Drainage Implant) on the Corneal Biomechanical Properties

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect two antiglaucoma procedures, namely trabeculectomy and Ex-PRESS mini-shunt insertion on biomechanical properties cornea. This a prospective study. Thirty patients (30 eyes) were included in Nineteen eyes had an shunt inserted (Group 1) 11 2). examination time points for both groups one three weeks preoperatively at month 1, 6, 12 postoperatively. Corneal (corneal hysteresis (CH) corneal resistance factor (CRF)) measured with Ocular Response Analyzer (ORA). In group CH was significantly increased 6 months compared baseline values. also higher 1 postoperatively, but increase did not reach statistical significance. 2, all preoperative CRF decreased postoperatively values groups. difference (preoperative postoperative points) between no significant differences detected surgical techniques. Trabeculectomy EX-PRESS alter as result trauma presence periphery. When them, they affect similar way.
